Capítulo 36
La descendencia de Esaú en Canaán
1 La descendencia de Esaú –es decir, de Edom– es la siguiente:
2 Esaú tomó sus esposas de entre las mujeres cananeas: a Adá, hija de Elón, el hitita; a Oholibamá, hija de Aná, que a su vez era hijo de Sibeón, el jivita;
3 y a Basmat, hija de Ismael y hermana de Nebaiot.
4 Adá fue madre de Elifaz; Basmat, madre de Reuel
5 y Oholibamá, madre de Ieús, Ialam y Coré. Estos son los hijos que Esaú tuvo en Canaán.
La emigración de Esaú a Seír
6 Después Esaú tomó a sus mujeres, a sus hijos e hijas, y a toda su servidumbre, su ganado, todos sus animales, y todos sus bienes que había adquirido en Canaán, y emigró a Seír, lejos de su hermano Jacob.
7 Porque los dos tenían demasiadas posesiones para vivir juntos, y el territorio donde residían no daba abasto para tanto ganado.
8 Así Esaú se estableció en la montaña de Seír. Esaú es Edom.
La descendencia de Esaú en Seír
9 Esta es la descendencia de Esaú, padre de Edom, en la montaña de Seír.
10 Los nombres de sus hijos son los siguientes: Elifaz, hijo de Adá, mujer de Esaú, y Reuel, hijo de Basmat, mujer de Esaú.
11 Los hijos de Elifaz fueron: Temán, Omar, Sefó, Gaetam y Quenaz.
12 Elifaz, el hijo de Esaú, también tuvo una esclava, Timná, que fue madre de Amalec. Estos son los descendientes de Adá, la mujer de Esaú.
13 Los hijos de Reuel fueron: Nájat, Zéraj, Samá y Mizá. Estos son los descendientes de Basmat, la mujer de Esaú.
14 Y los hijos de la otra esposa de Esaú, Oholibamá, hija de Aná, el hijo de Sibeón, fueron Ieús, Ialam y Coré.
Los clanes de los edomitas
15 Los clanes de los hijos de Esaú son los siguientes: Los hijos de Elifaz, el primogénito de Esaú, fueron los clanes de Temán, Omar, Sefó, Quenaz,
16 Coré, Gaetam y Amalec. Estos son los clanes de Elifaz en el país de Edom, los que descienden de Adá.
17 Los hijos de Reuel, hijo de Esaú, fueron los clanes de Nájat, Zéraj, Samá y Mizá. Estos son los clanes de Reuel en el país de Edom, los que descienden de Basmat.
18 Los hijos de Oholibamá, esposa de Esaú, fueron los clanes de Ieús, Ialam y Coré. Estos son los clanes de Oholibamá, hija de Aná, mujer de Esaú.
19 Estos son los hijos de Esaú –es decir, de Edom– con sus respectivos clanes.
Los descendientes de Seír
20 Los hijos de Seír, el hurrita, que vivían en aquella región son los siguientes: Lotán, Sobal, Sibeón, Aná,
21 Disón, Eser y Disán. Estos son los clanes de los hurritas, hijos de Seír, en el país de Edom.
22 Los hijos de Lotán fueron Jorí y Hemam, y la hermana de Lotán fue Timná.
23 Los hijos de Sobal fueron Alván, Manájat, Ebal, Sefó y Onam.
24 Los hijos de Sibeón: Aiá y Aná. Este es el mismo Aná que encontró las aguas termales en el desierto, mientras apacentaba los rebaños de su padre Sibeón.
25 Los hijos de Aná fueron Disón y Oholibamá, hija de Aná.
26 Los hijos de Disón fueron Jemdam, Esbán, Itrán y Querán.
27 Los hijos de Eser fueron Bilhán, Zaaván y Acán.
28 Los hijos de Disán fueron Us y Arán.
29 Los clanes de los hurritas fueron Lotán, Sobal, Sibeón, Aná,
30 Disón, Eser y Disán. Estos son, uno por uno los clanes de los hurritas en el territorio de Seír.
Los reyes de Edóm
31 Los reyes que reinaron en el país de Edom antes que ningún rey reinara sobre los israelitas son los siguientes:
32 Belá, hijo de Beor, reinó en Edom, y el nombre de su ciudad era Dinhabá.
33 Cuando murió Belá, lo sucedió Iobab, hijo de Zéraj, de Bosrá.
34 Cuando murió Iobab, lo sucedió Jusam, del país de los temanitas.
35 Cuando murió Jusam, lo sucedió Hadad, hijo de Bedad, el que derrotó a Madián en el campo de Moab; el nombre de su ciudad era Avit.
36 Cuando murió Hadad, lo sucedió Samlá, de Masrecá.
37 Cuando murió Samlá, lo sucedió Saúl, de Rejobot del Río.
38 Cuando murió Saúl, lo sucedió Baal Janán, hijo de Acbor.
39 Cuando murió Baal Janán, hijo de Acbor, lo sucedió Hadad; el nombre de su ciudad era Pau, y el nombre de su mujer, Mehetabel, hija de Matred, que a su vez era hija de Mezahab.
Otras listas de clanes de los edomutas
40 Los clanes de Esaú –cada uno con sus familias, sus localidades y sus nombres– son los siguientes: Timná, Alvá, Iétet.
41 Oholibamá, Elá, Pinón
42 Quenaz, Temán, Mibsar,
43 Magdiel e Iram. Estos son los clanes de Edom que residen en sus propios territorios. Esaú es el padre de Edom.

These are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom).

1 Esau took his wives from among the Canaanite women: Adah, daughter of Elon the Hittite; Oholibamah, granddaughter through Anah of Zibeon the Hivite;

and Basemath, daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.

Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau; Basemath bore Reuel;
5
and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock comprising various animals and all the property he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to the land of Seir, out of the way of his brother Jacob.
7
Their possessions had become too great for them to dwell together, and the land in which they were staying could not support them because of their livestock.
8
So Esau settled in the highlands of Seir. (Esau is Edom.)

These are the descendants of Esau, ancestor of the Edomites, in the highlands of Seir.

These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, son of Esau’s wife Adah; and Reuel, son of Esau’s wife Basemath.

The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

(Esau’s son Eliphaz had a concubine Timna, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz.) These are the descendants of Esau’s wife Adah.
13
The sons of Reuel were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the descendants of Esau’s wife Basemath.
14
The descendants of Esau’s wife Oholibamah – granddaughter through Anah of Zibeon – whom she bore to Esau were Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

The following are the clans of Esau’s descendants. The descendants of Eliphaz, Esau’s first-born: the clans of Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,

Korah, Gatam, and Amalek. These are the clans of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; they are descended from Adah.
17
The descendants of Esau’s son Reuel: the clans of Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the clans of Reuel in the land of Edom; they are descended from Esau’s wife Basemath.
18
The descendants of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: the clans of Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the clans of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, daughter of Anah.

Such are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom) according to their clans.

2 The following are the descendants of Seir the Horite, the original settlers in the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; they are the Horite clans descended from Seir, in the land of Edom.

Lotan’s descendants were Hori and Hemam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
23
Shobal’s descendants were Alvan, Mahanath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

Zibeon’s descendants were Aiah and Anah. (He is the Anah who found water in the desert while he was pasturing the asses of his father Zibeon.)
25
The descendants of Anah were Dishon and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah.
26
The descendants of Dishon were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.
27
The descendants of Ezer were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.
28
The descendants of Dishan were Uz and Aran.
29
These are the Horite clans: the clans of Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; they were the clans of the Horites, clan by clan, in the land of Seir.
31
3 The following are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the Israelites.
32
Bela, son of Beor, became king in Edom; the name of his city was Dinhabah.
33
When Bela died, Jobab, son of Zerah, from Bozrah, succeeded him as king.
34
When Jobab died, Husham, from the land of the Temanites, succeeded him as king. He defeated the Midianites in the country of Moab; the name of his city was Avith.
35
When Husham died, Hadad, son of Bedad, succeeded him as king.
36
When Hadad died, Samlah, from Masrekah, succeeded him as king.
37
When Samlah died, Shaul, from Rehoboth-on-the-River, succeeded him as king.
38
When Shaul died, Baal-hanan, son of Achbor, succeeded him as king.
39
When Baal-hanan died, Hadar succeeded him as king; the name of his city was Pau. (His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred, son of Mezahab.)
40
The following are the names of the clans of Esau individually according to their subdivisions and localities: the clans of Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
42
Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
43
Magdiel, and Iram. These are the clans of the Edomites, according to their settlements in their territorial holdings. (Esau was the father of the Edomites.)

2 [20] Seir the Horite: according to ⇒ Deut 2:12, the highlands of Seir were inhabited by Horites before they were occupied by the Edomites.
